Mozilla Stops Thunderbird Development

Mozilla has announced that it has stopped the development of Thunderbird. Thunderbird s theemail client that is losing users due to the improved features of mobile mail system.
No new feature will be added to Thunderbird project. But it will still get security updates and bug fixes occasionally.
TechCrunch has also reported this with a letter which was only for “Mozillians” but leaked.
This letter reads,
However, Thunderbird is one of the very few truly free and open source multi-platform email applications available today and we want to defend these values. We’re not “stopping” Thunderbird, but proposing we adapt the Thunderbird release and governance model in a way that allows both ongoing security and stability maintenance, as well as community-driven innovation and development for the product. This will mean an eventual shift in how we staff Thunderbird at Mozilla Corporation – we are still working out details, but some people will likely end up on other Mozilla projects.
Official announcement about the future of Thunderbird will be posted on Monday.
Thunderbird is open-source like other Mozilla projects. So outside developers can still add some features in it and can work together with Thunderbird team. But Mozilla does not want to use its resources on Thunderbird now. They want to use resources in good way as Thunderbird is losing users and losing its charm.

Facebook Is Working On Job Board

According to source, Facebook is now planning to launch a job board with few job posting companies. Facebook is said to have deal with BranchOut, Jobvite and Work4Labs for this new jobboard.
New reports says tha job posting business is growing and was worth about 4.3 billion last year. So most of the companies aregetting job board. LinkedIn is also growing as a professional job board, so Facebook do not want to lose this market. BranchOut, Jobvite and Work4Labs are some growing job posting websites.

This new job board will not built by Facebook and it will list jobs from third party websites. Wall Street Journal also reported the Facebook does not have plans to monetize the service initially.
Last year in October, Facebook initiated the hob hunting move by teaming up with the US Department of Labor and three employment-related agencies to decrease the unemployment in US. At the time, Facebook said that the “partnership will explore and develop systems where new job postings can be delivered virally through the Facebook site at no charge.”
If this news is true, this job portal will create a trouble for LinkedIn, Monster.com and other popular job posting boards.
This news is running on various news sources, but no one from Facebook is ready to comment on this. No one from the partner company also want to tell anything about this. So we have to wait for few days more. If the news is true, it will not take enough time to make the job board live.
People like to share everything on Facebook but they have to go on other website for job listing and search. After this job board, they will not have to leave Facebook. This will also increase user engagement on website and profits to the partner websites.
What do you think about this move? Tell use via your comments.

BlackBerry App World Crossed 3 Billions Downloads

Although, BlackBerry is struggling in smartphone market, but there is a good news from app world. BlackBerry has just announced that its app market now has more than 3 billion apps downloads from BlackBerry app world.
If you think that these numbers are not impressive, you should know that last announcement was made back in April when RIM has announced 2 billion app downloads. Getting more than 1 billion app downloads in just 2 months is really impressive growth.
RIM said, “three billion app downloads averages out to over 2.5 million downloads each day. What’s even more important – and impressive – is that the number of daily downloads continues to increase. It took 786 days to reach the one billion mark, 210 days to reach two billion, and only 176 days to reach the three billion number.”
One more thing to note that these number are only for official BlackBerry Store. It does not include downloads from third party stores. There are many third party stores which offers BlackBerry appsfor downloading directly from the web.
RIM has also announced that BlackBerry app store has more than 90,00 apps to download. While it was only 70,000 three months back. Moreover, RIM insisted to thanks those more than 28,000 BlackBerry App World vendors and the app store’s team for this notable achievement.
RIM has also announced that it has around around 78 million BlackBerry subscribers. But these numbers are decreasing due to many service outage problems in past. Company is trying its best to increase subscribers. But most of its efforts failed. Its tablet Playbook was also fail to attract users and lost market share. For Indian subscribers, company had also cut the price but low cost Indian companies got more attention of users.
RIM is also working on BlackBerry 10 OS which was earlier expected to hit the market by the end of the this year. Later RIM announced that it will come in the first quarter of next year.
